Varicose veins

Check-Up Appointment

6-8 weeks after your treatment, we can schedule a check-up appointment in order to make sure we achieved the desired results.

Purpose of the Check-Up

The primary objectives of these appointments are to ensure that your recovery is progressing smoothly and to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. During these visits, we monitor for any signs of potential complications, providing peace of mind that your healing process is on the right track and to asses if additional treatment is required.

Additionally, these check-ups offer an opportunity to address any concerns or symptoms you may experience post-treatment. They are a vital part of our commitment to delivering comprehensive care and achieving the best possible outcomes for your health, ensuring an improved quality of life.

What Happens During a Check-Up?

During your post-treatment check-up, our primary focus is on assessing your recovery and the success of your varicose veins treatment. Here's what you can typically expect:

  1. Physical Examination: The check-up usually starts with a physical examination of the treated areas. We check for signs of healing, any changes in the appearance of the veins, and assess for any residual or new varicose veins.
  2. Review of Symptoms: We'll discuss any symptoms you might be experiencing, such as discomfort, swelling, or changes in skin colour. This helps us gauge your recovery progress and address any concerns.
  3. Duplex Ultrasound Scan: In some cases, a follow-up Duplex Ultrasound Scan may be performed. This non-invasive scan helps us visualise the treated veins, ensuring that they have closed properly and that there are no underlying issues.
  4. Assessment of Treatment Effectiveness: We evaluate the overall effectiveness of the treatment, checking for improvements and ensuring that the desired outcomes are being met.
  5. Discussion of Any Concerns: This is a key part of your check-up where you can raise any questions or concerns. We encourage open communication to ensure you feel fully informed and comfortable with your recovery process.
  6. Guidance on Further Care: Based on the assessment, we may provide additional advice on post-treatment care, such as the continued use of compression stockings, activity levels, and any necessary lifestyle adjustments.
  7. Planning Future Check-Ups: If further monitoring is required, we'll discuss the schedule for your next check-up and any additional follow-up care needed.
  8. Potential additional treatment: In ~10-15% of all treatments there is the need for additional treatment. You will be advised on this during the check-up

Our aim during these check-ups is to ensure your comfort and satisfaction with the treatment results, and to provide ongoing support throughout your recovery journey.

Frequently

asked questions

Below, you will find five common questions and their answers for the post-treatment check-up of varicose veins. Remember, these answers are general guidelines, and your specialist will provide advice tailored to your specific situation during your check-up.
How long will it take for me to fully recover from my varicose vein treatment?
keyboard_arrow_down
Recovery time can vary depending on the treatment method used and your individual health. Generally, most patients experience significant improvement within a few weeks. However, complete recovery and the full effects of the treatment may take longer to manifest.
What are the signs of a complication I should watch out for after treatment?
keyboard_arrow_down
While complications are rare, it's important to be aware of signs such as severe pain, significant swelling, redness, or heat in the treated area, as well as any signs of infection like fever. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact the clinic immediately.
Can varicose veins reappear after treatment?
keyboard_arrow_down
Treatment significantly reduces the likelihood of treated veins reappearing. However, it doesn't prevent new varicose veins from developing in the future. Lifestyle changes and follow-up care can help minimise this risk.
When can I return to my normal activities after treatment?
keyboard_arrow_down
Most patients can return to normal activities relatively quickly, often within a day or two, especially after minimally invasive treatments. However, it's recommended to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks as advised by your specialist.
Will I need to continue wearing compression stockings after my treatment?
keyboard_arrow_down
Compression stockings may be recommended for a period after your treatment to aid in healing and reduce swelling. The duration for which you should wear them will depend on your specific case and the advice of your specialist.
