Varicose veins procedures

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)

Laser treatment with Radial fiber involves inserting a thin laser fiber into the diseased vein through a needle, after which it is heated, contracts, and dies over time. This eliminates the possibility of blood flowing back in the diseased vein, causing visible varicose veins, thread veins, and symptoms.

Treatment under local anesthesia

The treatment is performed under local anesthesia that is administered into the skin and around the relevant vein. This ensures good contact between the fiber and the vein while you feel nothing of the treatment itself. Only the skin is numbed, so you will be able to stand and walk as usual after the treatment.

Laser treatment is very effective

A thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein through a needle and heats the inside of the vein so that it contracts. The treated vein is immediately left in the body but will eventually be absorbed by your body. The heating itself takes 5-10 minutes, depending on the length of the vein. The treatment is performed under local anesthesia.

Varicose veins are often caused by weak or damaged vein walls and valves. Factors like age, genetics, obesity, pregnancy, prolonged standing or sitting, and hormonal changes can contribute to their development.
Are varicose veins just a cosmetic issue?

While varicose veins can be a cosmetic concern for many, they can also cause discomfort and lead to complications like skin changes, ulcers, and an increased risk of blood clots.
Can lifestyle changes prevent varicose veins?
keyboard_arrow_down
Lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, elevating your legs, and avoiding long periods of standing or sitting can help reduce the risk and alleviate symptoms of varicose veins.
What are the symptoms of varicose veins?

Symptoms include bulging, blue or dark purple veins, aching, heaviness, swelling, itching, and muscle cramping in the legs. In advanced cases, skin changes and ulcers can occur.

Foam sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy is the gold-standard treatment option for varicose veins when EVLA is not required, as recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). It’s worth noting, though, that the vast majority of patients with varicose veins do require EVLA.

Avulsions / Foam sclerotherapy
As a complement to laser treatment or foam sclerotherapy on the insufficient veins, you might need a complementary treatment to tackle the visible veins on the legs. This can be done by either avulsions, sclerotherapy, or both and gives the most holistic result. Some patients need several rounds of complementary treatments to achieve a satisfactory result.
